In our featured video (click for video), Guy Kawasaki, the Mercedes-Benz Brand Ambassador, and former evangelist for the Macintosh division of Apple Computer, interviews Steve Cannon, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, and both discuss the global debuts and all-new Mercedes-Benz vehicles from the showroom floor of the 2015 L.A. Auto Show.
The L.A. Auto Show is ground zero for assessing trends in automotive performance driving, as well as a venue for previewing exciting motor vehicles making their debut on the market. Here prominent marketing influencer and guru Guy Kawasaki interviews Steve Cannon to discuss these exciting new developments as they relate to Mercedes-Benz AMG line.
Guy: “Lets say that you’re going to the Grammy’s. Obviously you can have any car you want from Mercedes-Benz. Do you get driven in a Maybach? Or do you pull up in AMG GTS?”
Steve: “I pull up in a GTS.”
Guy: “Okay” [laughter]
Steve: “For me, I love driving, and I have had the great fortune of doing AMG driving events on some of the best tracks in the country. There is nothing more exhilarating to get in one of these machines, and see just how far you can push them. Most people never understand the full capabilities that would build our cars to. The GTS is one of the most sophisticated AMGs out there. It’s the first purpose-built GTS from the ground up. We often existing Mercedes-Benz products and we build them up for pure-performance. The GTS is built from the ground up.”
Guy: “So is that your daily driver?”
Steve: “I rotate. What’s so nice is that one day I am driving home in a GTE, then it’s a G-Wagon, then it’s a Maybach, or a S-Class, or an S Coupe. It’s kind of funny because I’ve got a lot of kids, so I’ve got my own social media audience. And I know I am driving a hit when they come out and take a picture and post it on Instagram. So I kind of get the thumbs up one whatever I am driving.”
Guy: “So basically everyday it’s good to be Steve Cannon.”
Steve: “It’s good. I am not gonna complain.”
Guy: “So basically everyday it’s good to be Steve Cannon.”
Steve: “I am grateful. It’s good. I am not gonna complain.”
Guy: “So now we know you pull up at the Grammy’s in a GTS. . . If you could have any [other] car which would you pull up in now?”
Steve: “I am grateful. It’s good. I am not gonna complain.”
Steve: “I would go back to the GTS, just because it’s brand new, it’s purpose-built for the track. If you talk to professional drivers, the C-Class is so fun. It’s light. It’s manueverable. Man, you can really have a lot of fun in this car. So it’s not like there is one car to choose to be at the top of the racing food chain. We offer a whole variety. . . pretty fun!”
Guy: “In essence, this is a GTS with a backseat. Total badass!”
Steve: “It looks like our Mercedes-Benz C-Coupe, but it’s a wider body. It’s all new sheet-metal. . . All new transmission. This is a completely different car in every way for pure performance.”
